DIURETIC ACTIVITY OF DANDELION (TARAXACUM OFFICINALE WIGG.) HERBAL PREPARATIONS

The diuretic activity of tinctures and aqueous extracts of dandelion (Taraxacum officinale Wigg.) herb was comparatively analyzed. To investigate the effect of the preparations on renal excretory function, their samples were intragastrically administered at a dose of 50 μg per kg animal body and urine output and duration of action were determined. The administration of dandelion herb tincture caused a significant isolated increase in natriuresis, but a day later the urine output increase was significant. That of 40% ethanol-based dandelion tincture induced insignificant changes in urine output and urinary sodium, potassium, and creatinine concentrations. 70% ethanol-based dandelion tincture was proven to be the most promising agent; it was found to have the most pronounced diuretic and saluretic effects with a short latent period and long action.
