The paper considers the history of the development of capsules from the advent of their first preparation methods to the creation of up-to-date highly productive technologies. It describes methods to manufacture soft and solid gelatin capsules, as well as the stages of improving encapsulation equipment. Information on the current manufacture of capsules in Russia and foreign countries is given.
