By using the leaves of leather bergenia (Bergenia crussifolia (L.) Fritsch) as an example, methodological approaches are proposed to predict the shelf-life of plant-based raw materials and to make a decision on a package that ensures the maximum protection of active ingredients from being destroyed. There are data on changes in the content of arbutin in the broken (coarse powder) and unbroken raw materials over a range of temperatures of 20 to 60°C and moisture contents of 9 to 25%. Basic kinetic parameters (rate constant, activation energy, etc.) of occurring reactions of arbutin destruction have been calculated for the raw material stored in the nonhermetic and hermetic packages at different moisture contents. When the raw material is stored in the nonhermetic package at 20°C for 3 years, arbutin concentrations in the unbroken and broken raw materials reduce by 7 and 11%, respectively. Arbutin in the hermetic package is better preserved in the broken raw materials over all storage temperature ranges. The destruction of all the test substances enhances with increases in the storage temperature and moisture contents of raw materials.
